Our Mentees’ Stories
“Joining YPMP has helped me in my personal and professional growth. It has allowed me to connect with experienced professionals, gain valuable insights, and learn from the experiences of others and receive feedback on my ideas and projects. YPMP has enabled me to develop leadership and teamwork skills, engage in community projects, and expand my network. Joshua serves as a Team Co-lead of the Gender Equality project in the Space Law and Policy project of the Space Generation Advisory Council heading a team of 14 members researching on Gender Equality in the Global Space Sector, especially in Africa and Latin America, seeking to protect sexual minorities and women through the law. Joshua also serves as the Head of the Legal Department of YPMP and Team Leader of the Human Trafficking Campaign Project, organizing trainings, and participating in the development of Uganda’s National Communication Strategy on Trafficking in Persons.
Joshua founded the HeforShe Uganda movement, mentoring young men to engage in gender equality awareness and transforming the lives of women and girls in rural areas. Joshua is a member of the African Union Youth Parliament and the Independent Continental Youth Advisory Council to the African Union. Additionally, Joshua is an author and has published a poem titled “Father” and books such as Lawyers of My Generation and Running after Love. “Olivia Brendah Nassiwa is my name. I am married and a mother of 3 children. I am a teacher, social worker, and Child Protection Advocate. I have greatly benefited from the Young Professionals Mentorship Program (YPMP). Our Mentorship sessions were very unique, commencing during the Covid-19 lockdown which made things a bit uncertain but the outcome has been amazing. YPMP came at a time when I desired to get career growth, as a classroom teacher, I had wanted to spread my wings and acquire better skills and be more aware of my strength. Through the mentorship, I got a clear picture of what career path to build towards. I have been encouraged to show up whenever the opportunity calls and to make meaningful decisions.
Most importantly, Ms. Agnes Igoye, my mentor has helped me to dig deeper and better understand myself, she has equipped me with skills to maneuver in the Professional World and I have been able to transition from the classroom to a job with USAID (Integrated Child and Youth Development) and a 2022 Fullbright Scholarship Graduate (Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program) at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA.
The best part about YPMP is that it has provided me with a strong support system, a confidant, allies… generally a distinctive meaning to the word ‘family’.

“YPMP has allowed me to achieve personal growth, learn about other cultures, develop leadership and communication skills, and take on volunteering and networking opportunities. I was accepted into the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative Program, a dynamic community of young leaders focused on developing innovative solutions that tackle world’s most pressing challenges in communities. I’ve also been recognized as a leader at the Ubuntu United Nations Leaders Academy, and are a speaker and writer. I’m grateful to YPMP and our Chief Mentor, Ms. Agnes Igoye, for the shared opportunity for learning and growth which has enabled us to achieve our full potential and make a positive impact in our communities and country. Currently, I’ve been offered a position at the Jim Leech MasterCard Foundation Fellowship on Entrepreneurship and am also a Clinton Global Initiative Mentor”.

“Young Professional Mentorship Program (YPMP) has been my source of inspiration, because the initial mentorship we had taught me a lot. From self-confidence, resume building, job and opportunity applications, public speaking among others, from invited Global Speakers and our Chief Mentor Madam Agnes Igoye. I learnt to learn, unlearn, and relearn.
YPMP has also been my sustainer; since I came to the UK and graduated in my Master’s in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex (Class of 2022), our Chief Mentor has given me phenomenal support from Uganda; Her continued mentorship helped me settle down in foreign land and even to take up leadership roles. Due to this, I emerged as the Best Student Representative of the year 2022 and scoring Distinctions in Assessments.
Thank you YPMP and our Chief Mentor. Everyone needs a mentor, Everyone needs an Agnes Igoye in their life!”.
